JOB TITLE: Adjunct High School Carpentry Teacher

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Plans and implements the instructional program for Carpentry and Construction Trades following school and school division policies and procedures and Virginia Career and Technical Education (CTE) standards.
- Employs a variety of teaching methods, hands-on learning experiences, and instructional materials to meet the range of student abilities and needs, including available instructional technology.
- Provides instruction in carpentry fundamentals, including workplace safety, tool identification and use, measuring and layout, blueprint reading, framing, woodworking, construction techniques, and industry best practices.
- Maintains a safe and organized shop/classroom environment and ensures compliance with all safety regulations and procedures.
- Monitors student behavior and maintains discipline for a safe learning environment. Models and encourages appropriate behavior standards acceptable in the school community.
- Maintains student records as required by the school, school division, and the Commonwealth of Virginia. Maintains strict confidentiality regarding student information.
- Assesses student progress through projects, assignments, demonstrations, and other appropriate evaluation methods.
- Prepares and distributes periodic progress reports and semester report cards.
- Allocates and grades assignments, projects, and assessments utilizing division grading procedures.
- Effectively communicates with parents regarding their child's educational progress through written reports, conferences, and other communications as required by school and division policies.
- Works cooperatively with supervisors, colleagues, business partners, and community stakeholders to ensure continuous improvement in providing high-quality educational opportunities and career readiness experiences.
- Participates in professional development opportunities for personal and professional growth.
- Plans, attends, and/or participates in special events as requested by administrators including, but not limited to, career fairs, field trips, school assemblies, and community events.
- Maintains the appropriate license for the subject area(s) in the Commonwealth of Virginia when applicable.
- Follows the regulations and policies of Rappahannock County Public Schools and the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia.
- Other duties as assigned by school administrators.
POSITION SCHEDULE
This is an adjunct position teaching one class block per semester at Rappahannock County High School.
Minimum Training and Experience
Preferred qualifications include a Virginia teaching license with an endorsement in Carpentry or a related Career and Technical Education (CTE) field or industry certification.
Applicants who do not currently hold a Virginia teaching license but possess significant professional experience in carpentry, construction, woodworking, or a related skilled trade are encouraged to apply. Rappahannock County Public Schools is willing to support qualified candidates in obtaining the appropriate Virginia Career and Technical Education teaching licensure. Retired educators, retired trades professionals, and individuals currently working in the construction industry are encouraged to apply.
Candidates should demonstrate:
- Extensive experience in carpentry, construction, or a related skilled trade.
- Knowledge of industry safety standards and practices.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- The ability to work effectively with high school students.
- A commitment to preparing students for careers and post-secondary opportunities in the skilled trades.
